GET THE LOOK // ARNOLD PALMER

As the spring season begins, so does the laid-back lifestyle - and Patrick James has you covered. We’re breaking down how to get this casual elegance by following the style cues of an icon who lived this lifestyle - the late Arnold Palmer. Whether it was his refreshing, signature drink or stylish threads, this golf professional knew how to live life to the fullest.

Here is how to get Arnold’s look.

Color, color, and more color. If you look at some of the photographs of Palmer from his golfing heyday, you can definitely see his preference was dressing in a variety of colors. His love for light yellow pants, or a seafoam green polo, or even a light blue sweater, were testament to his boldness. Don’t be afraid to add some of these hues to your wardrobe. This kind of aesthetic is perfect for the coming months as the bright, cheerful colors fit in perfectly for wherever your summer plans take you.

Arnold Palmer can also be seen wearing an assortment of striped shirts. As the temperature rises, wearing a long sleeve dress shirt and tie may not be the best option for a dressier event, and a Hawaiian shirt might not cut it. Try a patterned polo instead. This will not only keep you cool, but will bring some of Palmer’s vintage golf course style to your outfit.

Palmer Polo Pointers:
Tuck your polo in. This may seem like an unnecessary thing to say, yet for many years now shirt tails have been purposefully left hanging. By tucking your shirt in, not only are you able to define the waistline (via a belt) and give your body better proportion, but you immediately give your outfit a more polished appearance.

Check the sleeve length. If it appears to be a short sleeve then it’s fine, right? Wrong. Make sure your sleeves do not go past your elbows. Many sport polo shirts accomodate for excessive movement and can cause the sleeves to make their way down the arm a little too far. Instead try out a slim or fitted polo. They are designed to fit closer to the body and flatter every body type.

You’re never fully dressed without a fresh Arnold Palmer (the drink, that is). Here’s our take on a classic Arnold Palmer - with a twist.
